Adopt a Barn Owl

Adopt a Barn Owl – Meet Charlie!

If you’d like to adopt an owl that features as one of the UK’s favourite birds, then Charlie the Barn Owl is the owl to adopt!

Charlie the Barn Owl is an invaluable member of the bird team. Charlie the Barn Owl was born in 2013, and lives at the Hawk Conservancy Trust alongside his sister, Delta. He is a truly beautiful owl to watch in flight – Barn Owls hunt by flying in a figure of eight motion called quartering. Charlie has demonstrated this unique style of flight over the years by taking part in our flying displays.

Over the past few years, poor Charlie has started to develop cataracts. Although this does not affect his overall health, it means he is better suited to flying in open spaces where he can really spread his wings and manoeuvre around the large area. Therefore he now flies more often in our evening events and experience days, where he can soar over Reg’s Wildflower Meadow and our Savannah Arena.

He is quite an independent owl, and can often be a bit shy! When he is not flying, he spends his time contently sitting on the highest perch of his aviary and posing beautifully for passers-by.

If you would like to adopt an owl whose sweet and shy demeanour will win you over, then adopt Charlie the Barn Owl!

Did you know?
Owls can catch their prey in complete darkness. This is because their ears are positioned asymmetrically which allows them to pinpoint the location of prey movements.
