Family Fun With Raptors

Children dissecting owl pelletsAt last something to write in their school diaries about “What our family did at the weekend

This half day experience session (either morning or afternoon) allows the whole family to get close to and enjoy working with a variety of Birds of Prey. Have a close encounter with a Barn Owl, help fly a young bird in training, and watch owls in their natural environment as they fly through the trees to land on your fist. Get a prey’s eye view of a top predator swooping low over your head, and at certain times of the year there may also be the chance to help feed young chicks in the hospital.

Try your hand at swinging a falcon lure, tracking birds with a radio transmitter and learn what owls eat by dissecting an owl pellet. You can even pit adults versus children in our family fun bird of prey quiz.

Young boy with barn owlThis is not an intensive course, but the chance for all generations of the family to experience the unforgettable pleasure of working with these wonderful creatures, and learn a little bit more about them, and the work the Trust carries out with them.

Morning sessions run from 10 am -1pm. For the afternoon session you will be met by your hosts at 1.45pm, and taken Valley of the Eagles before commencing your course. This session will finish at 5.30pm.

You are more than welcome to remain at the Trust for the rest of the day, once your morning session is over, or if attending the afternoon session maybe arrive early and enjoy lunch at Duffy’s before arriving at the meeting point (not included).

** The types of birds used on this course are dependant upon when the course is taken, and the ages of the participating children. Please note that some birds may only by flown by adults, although children will be allowed close access **
