2002 TOURISM AWARD RECEIVED

Safeway/English Tourist Board Excellence in England logo The Hawk Conservancy and Country Park has again won the (United Kingdom) Southern Tourist Board's coveted regional Excellence in England award for Visitor Attraction of the Year 2002 (under 100,000 visitors per year). The aim of the competition, run by the English Tourist Board, is to find Britain's top attractions in various categories.
The Hawk Conservancy and Country Park was chosen, against a lot of stiff competition, to represent the Southern Region in the national competition in the category for attractions with up to 100,000 visitors per year. Selection is made following a secret visit by a group of judges, who are looking for excellence in all areas from the quality of the attraction to the attitudes of staff and volunteers to visitors (and everything in between)
Michael Green presents the award to Ashley The Excellence in England awards, dubbed 'The Tourism Oscars', were created by the English Tourism Council to encourage, recognise and honour outstanding achievement within the tourism industry. As STB's regional winner, The Hawk Conservancy and Country Park now goes forward to the national heats to compete with other regional winners from all over England.
The award was presented to directors Ashley Smith and his mother Hilary at a special ceremony by Michael Green, Chairman of the Southern Tourist Board, who used the occasion also to announce that The Hawk Conservancy and Country Park had been chosen as one of the three finalists for the national award. The ceremony was attended by the staff and by a large number of the volunteers whose regular efforts help to make the Park what it is.

Michale Green presents the award to Hilary also Over the years, Hilary's contribution to making the park what it is today is immeasurable. It is fitting that STB Chairman Michael Green should acknowledge this.
Some of the vulunteers who make such a large contribution Here are the staff and some of the volunteers who turn up in all weathers to carry out whatever tasks Ashley throws at them. Their contribution is also recognised.
