Monthly Diary - July 2010

1st July
Education Officer Lou Ritchie held a nature session at a local nature reserve with children from Amport School.

Four young Peregrine Falcon chicks, brought to the Trust by the RSPCA, have been successfully rehabilitated back to the wild. Staff from the Conservation and Research Department built a hack box at a secret location, and over the course of a couple of weeks the chicks were artificially fed before the front of the hack box was opened and the birds returned to the wild.

All the young Tawny Owls that had been brought into the hospital during the spring were released back to the wild. For the first time Hospital Help volunteers helped to release the birds.

A presentation evening was held for 100 Club supporters. Talks were given by Ashley on creating a good display and by Paul talking about his Africa trip that was funded by the club.

The third Dreamnight for disadvantaged local children took place at the Trust. More than 200 children enjoyed an evening at the Trust, which included face painting, pony rides, pets corner, climbing wall, gundog displays and the chance to meet some of the Trust's birds.

Wild arena held a photographic day at the Trust, and then kindly stayed on in the evening taking photos of the children holding an owl.

Policeman playing the cornhole game The medieval group with horse, birds and dogs Trust staff attended the local Amport fete, setting up the cornhole game to raise funds for the village. The Trust also gave a taster of our medieval horseback display, walking from the Trust to the village green in costume to entertain the fete goers.

Education Officer Lou, accompanied by volunteers Kath and Julianne attended Micheldever fete with a display of owl pellet dissection and our egg crushing machine.

A second Fund-a-Bird presentation evening was held at the Trust
26th July

A group from RAF Netheravon spent a team-building day working at the Trust. They helped to put up roof netting on our new aviary and cover the base of the aviary floor in gravel.

Sonia attended an ACE training course in Cardiff. The course covered promotion and selling techniques.

27th July
A crew from BBC's Countryfile spent a day filming at the Trust, their subjects being the work of the hospital and the rehabilitation of the Honey Buzzard earlier this year. The programme is due to be broadcast at the end of the year.

Ashley attended a BIAZA council meeting in London.

A second "thank-you" evening was held for supporters of the 100 Club, who were unable to attend the first evening, which had been fully subscribed.
